UPCOMING EVENTS
Summer Sailstice
We’ll participate in an international celebration of summer and sailing! Details will follow. This will be a day trip.
First Fridays in Ridley Park
This is a monthly event through the summer with food and craft vendors on Hinckley Avenue. We will participate in the one on Friday, June 5 to promote ourselves and sell Savings Cards. The time is 5:00-9:30 pm. We could do this in shifts.
Educational Cruise on the Delaware River
We’ve been invited to a narrated cruise and buffet dinner on the Benjamin Franklin Yacht. The narration will focus on aids to navigation, piloting, and plotting our position using a handheld compass, nautical charts, and GPS. On the return trip we will see lighted aids, ranges, and navigation lights on the big ships.
Regular Meeting
It is our intent to become a Scout-led troop. This means, among other things, that Scouts will plan and manage meetings.

Whitewater Rafting
We will be rafting on the wild and scenic Lehigh River. It will be a mega release weekend, meaning We’ll experience the highest (non-floodwater) riverflow of the year, turning Class II and III rapids into Class III and IV. It will be a blast! We will camp at Hickory Run State Park.
Beachwood Sea Scout Sailing Regatta
We’ve been invited to a weekend of sailing, land training, nautical games and swimming in Tom’s River, NJ. This annual event is hosted by Ship 117 in Little Egg Harbor. Details to come.
Ship 484 Vessel Safety Inspection - POSTPONED
Observing the inspection will be informative and satisfy a difficult to complete Apprentice requirement. If weather permits, there will be some boat time. The event is on Monday, June 8th at the Delaware River Yacht Club, Philadelphia. We would need to leave Springfield at 4:30 and if the weather is nice would be back between 9:30-10:30, earlier if the boat is not going out.
Sailing with Ship 2012
We’ll enjoy a sunset sail with fellow Sea Scouts on the Delaware River from the Pennsylvania Yacht Club in Bensalem. These sunset sails are weekly events on Thursdays through the summer beginning at 6:45. We will join them - weather permitting - on June 4. We will leave Springfield at 5:45 pm and return by about 10:30 pm

Liberty Jam
We will provide service at the Cradle of Liberty Council’s Liberty Jam, promoting Sea Scouts and Ship 610. We do not plan to camp at the event, allowing Scouts to camp with their troops if they wish. Some may only want to go for the day. Details will follow.
Fort Mifflin Tour
We’ll continue to stay locally to keep costs low. This month we’ll take a day trip to Fort Mifflin to learn the importance of this place during the Revolutionary War. It has a unique place in U.S. maritime history as well. We’ll start with a picnic lunch (bring your own) on the grounds of the fort. Then at 1:00 the cannons will fire! We’ll get a tour and educational program for up to 20 people. Let’s take that many and split the cost of $250. If we have more than 20, it’s $12 per person extra. So we can accommodate other family members.

There will be separate youth and adult meetings, followed by an awards ceremony, dinner and a dance (we’re talking fancy dresses dance). There will also be games and other activities. You will make new friends that you will continue to see on the land or water. Details will come soon. The cost will be $60 each, which is a price partially subsidized by the Delaware Valley Youth Boating Association.

Boating Safety Education Course
It’s like a license to drive a boat. The Boating Safety Education Certificate is a pretty big deal for boaters. We’ll take the all-day course at Delaware County Field & Stream. The class is free, but you’ll need to bring lunch, snacks and drinks for the day. You’ll want to take notes to help you pass the test at the end of the course.
